A new title match has been announced for NJPW Resurgence, the upcoming US show set to feature a live crowd.
It was previously announced that Jay White would be in action during the August show. It has now been revealed that White will defend his NEVER Openweight Championship against David Finlay.
White defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi for the title at Wrestling Dontaku in May. Following the match, he immediately nominated Finlay as his first challenger, leading to NJPW making the match official for Resurgence.
White and Finlay have had a storied rivalry, with Finlay defeating White in their latest encounter, during the 2021 New Japan Cup. Finlay was previously announced for Resurgence, as part of his “FinJuice” tag team.
Resurgence will air on August 14 from the L.A. Coliseum. Fans will be in attendance for the event, meaning this will be the first time a US NJPW show will have featured a crowd since New Beginning in the USA in February 2020.
IWGP US Champion Jon Moxley will be in action on the show. The Good Brothers are also scheduled to compete at Resurgence, following their upcoming return to NJPW.
