Shortly after making his main roster debut, it was announced that Tommaso Ciampa would require major neck surgery that would not only force him to vacate the NXT Championship, but also force him to miss anywhere between nine to twelve months of his career.
Ciampa appeared at the end of NXT Takeover: New York to congratulate his best friend turned bitter enemy Johnny Gargano, who had just won the NXT Championship that his former tag team partner had been forced to vacate. Prior to his injury, Ciampa was scheduled to defend his title at the show against Gargano.
Over a month after undergoing neck surgery, Ciampa has shared on Instagram that he is starting to begin very light training. Ciampa is only able to lift 5kg on most lifts, but it is nice to see that he is slowly beginning his preparation for an in-ring return after he was told that he was on “borrowed time” if he decided to come back.
