NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa has explained why his current position on the brand is exciting, discussing the possibility of another showdown with Johnny Gargano.
Ciampa was the first NXT Champion crowned following the brand’s reboot. The formerly-gold brand is transitioning away from showcasing former independent stars, and now focuses on bigger and younger athletes.
In an interview with Planeta Wrestling, Ciampa noted that it has been cool to watch some of the newer NXT names adapt and overcome obstacles, stating:
“It’s super exciting. It’s great watching guys develop. They’ve been put on a fast track, sink or swim, a lot of obstacles to overcome and it’s cool to watch and be part of that. To see guys like Bron (Breakker) who take off right away and a lot of other people who have been working really hard and waiting for an opening for a long time. It’s exciting to see.”
During last week’s episode, Ciampa crossed paths with Johnny Gargano, arguably his biggest rival from his time on NXT. When asked if he’s interested in facing Gargano again, Ciampa said:
“No. Right now? No. He’s not on the top of my list. I like keeping my title. ‘Stay away’, he can go get the North American Title.”
On November 4, a number of NXT and WWE names were let go by the company. WWE was reportedly close to releasing a number of ‘veteran’ NXT stars during the cut.
