In speaking with PWInsider. Tommaso Ciampa discussed his upcoming match with Johnny Gargano. The two will be facing off this Wednesday in what would have been NXT TakeOver if not for the Coronavirus.
This is supposed to be the blow-off to what has turned out to be a 5-year story. However, it was supposed to end at NXT TakeOver over a year ago. Unfortunately, a neck injury derailed the plans to what many considered the best feud of 2018.
Although, if Ciampa had his way, things would have gone differently:
“If I had it my way, I would’ve got to New York, we would’ve had the match, and then I would’ve went and got my neck repaired. Even to this day I feel that way just because it would’ve been such a great endnote stamp and then I get to go fix myself and take my time and all that. But it just wasn’t meant to happen. The doctors checked it out and said, “No, it’s time to go.”‘
Neck injuries are nothing to mess with. So, it seems this is a pretty reckless way to go. In a world where WWE takes a lot of heat for how its doctors have handled injuries, it seems they acted with precaution. Did they do the right thing?
Ciampa added:
“…there’s no doubt in my mind that we made the right call.”
Who knows if Ciampa would have injured himself more or may have been fine, but for his sake and ours, it is a good thing we still have Ciampa on our tv screens each Wednesday night.
