Tony Khan ‘Worked Out’ Issues Between Major AEW Partners

Tony Khan ‘Worked Out’ Issues Between Major AEW Partners AEW/CMLL/AAA

AEW Dynamite on June 5, 2024, featured former AAA stars on a show that also featured CMLL-associated wrestlers.

On last night’s AEW Dynamite, as can be seen below, Blackpool Combat Club took on Team CMLL, comprising Esfinge, Magnus, Rugido, & Volador Jr.

Elsewhere on the show, Rey Fenix, formerly of AAA & CMLL, featured in the 4-Way AEW International Title #1 Contender Match alongside Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Jay Lethal.

Another former AAA (and CMLL) star, in the form of Rush, interrupted MJF during his return segment on Dynamite.

The presence of AAA and CMLL names on the same show is something that has been a source of confusion previously.

Dave Meltzer has previously claimed that “the deal with CMLL is that on any television show that their talent appears on, no other Mexican wrestlers can appear.”

Fightful Select has, however, reported that this is “outright false” according to their AEW sources, with it being noted that “CMLL talent is not supposed to be booked in angles or matches with AAA talent.”

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer provided an update on the relationship between all three parties on Wrestling Observer Radio, stating:

“Yeah, Tony Khan said that they have pretty much worked it out. So that means that at Forbidden Door that RUSH and (Rey) Fenix and these guys can appear.

“Money talks I guess. After a while you get relationships… he’s really been a good partner for New Japan and he’s trying to be a good partner for CMLL and I guess CMLL got less stubborn as they’re trying to expose their guys in this country.

“It makes more sense for them, I mean CMLL guys are getting more and more work in this country and there’s even talk of CMLL trying to shows in this country. I don’t know if that’s going to happen, I don’t think they’ll do it on their own, but time will tell.”

As noted by Fightful Select in their report, Komander appeared on the January 31 episode of AEW Dynamite with that show also featuring CMLL wrestlers.
