AEW President Tony Khan has revealed that a huge segment from the August 13 episode of Rampage was a ‘complete shoot’.
On last night’s show, Fuego del Sol challenged Miro for the TNT Championship, with the added stipulation that if he won, he’d earn an AEW contract. Despite Del Sol losing the title bout, Sammy Guevara joined Del Sol in the ring to tell him he had earned an AEW contract anyway.
Tony Khan has revealed that Del Sol didn’t know this segment was going to happen. Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Khan explained that he wanted to genuinely surprise Del Sol, saying:
“That was a complete shoot. Fuego had no idea that was going to happen. Sammy was the only person I told, and Fuego was legitimately surprised to receive the contract he’s been dreaming of and chasing.”
In the first match of AEW Rampage, Christian Cage defeated Kenny Omega for the IMPACT World Championship. Omega has commented on his title loss, ahead of his AAA Mega Championship match against Andrade El Idolo at Triplemania XXIX tonight.
IMPACT has announced that Cage will defend his gold at Emergence on August 20. He is also set to appear at IMPACT tapings next week.
