AEW President Tony Khan has addressed backstage heat rumors following CM Punk calling out Hangman Page on the August 17 edition of Dynamite.
Reports following the show indicated that CM Punk’s call-out was completely ‘off script’, with there being legitimate backstage heat between Punk and Page following their Double or Nothing feud.
“It’s unresolved anger, I think, from the World title match at Double or Nothing. We haven’t really tied up all those issues. There was clearly some stuff that didn’t get resolved at Double or Nothing.”
Per Dave Meltzer, there’s currently a ton of backstage drama involving some major AEW names. Tony Schiavone has since claimed that the backstage situation is ‘not even close’ to how bad some have made it out to be.
There was a reference to CM Punk’s call-out during a Hangman Page segment on Being The Elite, which you can read more about right here.
On the August 24 edition of Dynamite, CM Punk and Jon Moxley will meet in an Undisputed AEW World Championship match, following Punk’s return from injury.
