Tony Khan Discusses Challenges Of Booking Important AEW Matches

AEW President Tony Khan has discussed the challenge of not over-exposing talent, and building towards huge matches he has planned for the future.

On Rasslin’ with Brandon Walker, Khan cited the rivalry between Adam Cole and Jungle Boy as an example of the type of feud he likes in AEW, discussing the duo’s recent matches.

Khan explained that it is important that he builds towards every major match, stating that he intended for Bryan Danielson vs Hangman Page to air on TV to give the AEW Champion and #1 contender the opportunity to show the world what they can do.

Wanting every match to live up to potential, Khan said:

“We’ve been patient, and I think you saw, when you mention Adam Cole and Jungle Boy, man, they’ve had some amazing matches between them. When you look at the singles match they had on Newark and then whether it’s the six-man tag at Grand Slam or the Falls Count Anywhere… the amazing Falls Count Anywhere trios match. And then there were also some amazing matches along the way, including a main event on Rampage that I thought was outstanding with Adam Cole and Bobby Fish taking on Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, which was one of the best matches we’ve had on Rampage.

“It’s a challenge not to put the new free agents and all the top wrestlers in like the huge matches every week. And there is something for having the biggest matches on television which we’re building to, stuff like Bryan Danielson versus Hangman Page for the world title and giving Hangman such a huge match on television for everybody to see right out of the gate. And we’re building towards huge matches on TV every week and I think it’s important to build to them.

“There’s a lot of great wrestling matches along the way too like I said that aren’t necessarily the end-all, be-all in everyone’s mind and then when you watch them, whether it’s some of the great matches, like man what a great match, I brought up that Adam Cole and Bobby Fish versus Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus match, they’ve had a couple great tags, one against Orange Cassidy and Wheeler YUTA I thought was outstanding.”

Danielson challenges Page for the AEW World Championship on Wednesday’s Dynamite: Winter Is Coming special. It will be Page’s first defence of the title since winning the gold at Full Gear.
