Tony Khan ‘Chipping Away’ At Ex-WWE Star For AEW In-Ring Debut AEW

AEW President Tony Khan may be trying to tempt a former WWE star to re-enter the squared-circle for the first time in over three years.

Chris Hero (fka Kassius Ohno) has recently been making backstage appearances for AEW, with the 43-year-old working as a backstage producer on a trial basis since the June 17 Collision premiere.

However, the ROH legend has not wrestled since appearing in a battle royal on NXT UK on March 7, 2020.

Responding to a Twitter user who called for former WWE NXT star Chris Hero to enter this year’s Blood & Guts match, Khan gave an intriguing response:

I’m chipping away on him.

With Hero recently working for West Coast Pro Wrestling in March as a matchmaker, it seems as if AEW and Khan have plans for him beyond his producer role, if he can be tempted, that is.

Hero is surrounded by familiar faces in AEW at present as many of his former ROH colleagues such as CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels and Bryan Danielson are with AEW.

The July 17 Blood & Guts match currently has two spots open, with both the Elite and Blackpool Combat Club sides having one slot to fill.

While former NJPW star Kota Ibushi seems likely for the final spot on The Elite team, a new report has indicated that CM Punk put his name forward to compete in the match.
