Tony Khan Comments On Controversial Cody Rhodes Promo

AEW President Tony Khan is making the media rounds in anticipation of tonight’s Beach Break edition of AEW Dynamite, including appearing on Busted Open Radio to discuss amongst other things, Cody Rhodes.

On whether or not Cody is a heel or a face, Tony Khan said:

“I think it depends, a lot of it, on the opponent and the situation, and Cody is certainly willing to lean into that role and does a great job of it. Against a person like Sammy, who is one of the most exciting young wrestlers out there, and the Interim TNT Champion now. I think Cody definitely has leaned into being an aggressive heel and doing some things to help extenuate the match.”

Rhodes being a versatile performer is beneficial but his ability to draw attention, positive or negative from fans and the wrestling community in general is nearly unparalleled with everyone having their own take on him and his character.

Going on to discuss specifically last week’s promo, ahead of the TNT Championship match, Khan noted:

“I think depending on the situation and the opponent, Cody brings a lot of excitement to the matches. Definitely got a lot of people talking with his promo, as they often do generate controversy or excitement. I think the most important thing in wrestling is the wrestling matches, and this is a match I really believe fans will want to see and will enjoy, the ladder match for the Undisputed TNT Championship tonight on Dynamite.”

The 2022 Beach Break edition of AEW Dynamite on TBS will air live tonight from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and is scheduled to also feature an unsanctioned lights-out match between Adam Cole and Orange Cassidy.
