AEW President Tony Khan has commented on representation within the AEW locker-room.
In an interview with Sporting News, Khan was asked about steps that AEW was taking to encourage diversity. Khan pointed to Anthony Bowens, Jake Atlas and Nyla Rose while discussing LGBTQ+ representation. He then discussed his plans to continue diversifying the roster, discussing the acquisitions of black wrestlers Keith Lee and AQA.
Excited about what the company is doing, Khan said:
“Anthony Bowens, of course, was just here promoting on behalf of GLAAD and AEW. In the LGBTQ community, we have great representation including Nyla Rose, a former women’s world champion, the first transgender world champion in wrestling ever and a great representation.
“Of course, diversifying the roster is very important. We saw that on Dynamite when we added great free agents including Keith Lee and AQA. I plan to continue to diversify and expand the roster and I’m very excited about what we’re doing.
“Jake Atlas, another great debut who really serves the community and is a great person. I’m sorry he had the injury on Rampage against Adam Cole, but I’m really excited about him and am going to take care of him while he’s out. I’m a big fan of Jake Atlas too.”
Khan recently addressed the future of the seemingly ever-growing roster, revealing what goes into deciding whether to offer a new contract, or parting ways with a talent after their contract expires
