Tony Khan Explains Why He Paired Sting With Darby Allin

Tony Khan has explained why he decided to put Sting into a pairing with Darby Allin upon signing the WWE Hall of Famer.

This comes ahead of Darby Allin facing CM Punk at All Out on Sunday, a match for which Sting said on Wednesday’s Dynamite he won’t be at ringside for.

On the latest AEW Unrestricted, Tony Schiavone said that the pairing has helped build a bridge between the older fans of Sting and the younger fans of Allin.

In response to the discussion about the pairing, Khan said:

“It’s been really great. Bringing Sting in and signing Sting, I thought it was a natural fit with Sting and Darby, and it’s been such a great pairing. They’ve added so much to each other, and what a unique chapter in both of their careers, at a really formative time in Darby’s young, exciting career as he launches himself into real stardom, mainstream stardom. Sting is somebody who knows a lot about that, one of the most successful wrestlers of all time. What a great mentor for Darby.”

Khan then pointed out that it’s not just Sting and Darby Allin that have a lot in common, but they also share those characteristics with Allin’s opponent CM Punk. Khan added:

“And again, they have so much in common, really three men that have a lot in common. Three men, three really good men, three honest men, and three men who aren’t gonna go out and be having drinks or doing anything crazy. Three real straight-edge hard-training guys and all in prime condition. Really, three great generations with Sting, Darby Allin and CM Punk, three great generations of champions here in AEW where the best champions in wrestling work.”

Allin will be in action tonight on Rampage against Daniel Garcia two days ahead of the pay-per-view. WrestleTalk.com will of course have live coverage of both shows.
