Tony Khan Explains Why He Didn’t Save CM Punk Vs Jon Moxley For All Out AEW

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite is set to feature the highly anticipated AEW World Championship unification match between AEW World Champion CM Punk and Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.

CM Punk announced his injury back in June, leading to a new interim champion being crowned at Forbidden Door, which Moxley won by defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event of the show. This lead to heavy speculation that Punk and Moxley were set to meet in the main event of All Out to unify the titles.

However, it was announced at the end of last week’s show that, rather than at All Out, the world titles are set to be unified on tonight’s AEW Dynamite show, a decision that came as a surprise to many people watching.

Tony Khan appeared on Busted Open Radio today to hype up the match, where he was asked why the match was set to take place tonight rather than at All Out.

He said:

“It’s a great match for the fans now and I feel like it would be a great match at any time. But tonight, it felt like the right night for this big fight, and given that last week, we really could not keep these guys apart, it just did not seem sustainable to try and have this show get taken down week after week by these guys who were clearly just going to tear the ring apart if we continued this way. So we saw last week we couldn’t even get the show running, Mark Sterling and Tony Nese were coming out for an interview and they couldn’t even get that going. Jon Moxley hijacked the show and CM Punk was out and they were fighting again for the second time in the same night. So these guys wanted to fight and I think tonight on TBS presents a great opportunity for a big fight. Of course, as we approach All Out, the card is going to be massive and we’re going to have a much better idea of what that’s going to look like.”

Also set for tonight’s show is a Trios match between Death Triangle and United Empire, Britt Baker vs KiLynn King, and a father vs son match between Billy and Colten Gunn.

We ran down 5 shocking ways that tonight’s huge title match could go down.
