WWE held a press conference on Saturday, announcing the main event for their upcoming WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia on November 5, when Roman Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Logan Paul.
The event will be the fourth iteration of the event since the company’s agreement with the country began back in 2018, with no Crown Jewel event taking place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
AEW president Tony Khan spoke with News 12 ahead of AEW Grand Slam this week, where he spoke about bringing Grand Slam to New York.
Khan went on to call the North East of the United States the ‘crown jewel’ of wrestling markets, before taking a shot at WWE’s Crown Jewel, referring to it as ‘some BS overseas in Saudi Arabia.
He said:
“We’re running a lot of great shows around the Northeast. It’s so many great wrestling markets in one geographic region. I’ll say it: (it’s) the crown jewel of wrestling markets — the real crown jewel of wrestling markets, not some BS overseas in Saudi Arabia. The real crown jewel — New York City — is where you want to be.”
Tony Khan also spoke about how AEW Grand Slam is going to be ‘unlike anything’ AEW has ever done before.
