AEW President Tony Khan has commented on the Endeavor WWE sale, following rumors that he was interested in acquiring WWE himself.
Following months of WWE sale rumors, It was confirmed on April 3 that Endeavor has acquired WWE and will merge it into one sports and entertainment company with the UFC.
Prior to this, there was heavy speculation surrounding numerous parties regarding a potential sale, including Tony Khan and his father Shahid Khan, with Tony himself saying he was following the process “very closely”, and reports from Barrons and CNBC that there was interest.
Speaking on Maggie and Perloff, Tony Khan stated that the sale is a positive for the entire wrestling business.
When asked how far his interest in WWE got ahead of the ultimate sale to Endeavor, Khan said:
“I can’t speak to that except to say that I was interested. It will also be very interesting to see what happens with that sale.
“Certainly, in many ways, it’s a big positive to the pro wrestling business and I think the huge attendance numbers and TV and streaming numbers for pro wrestling and the great sales for AEW on pay-per-view and all the big merchandising numbers show that pro wrestling is really back as an industry in many major ways in 2023 and AEW is a big part of the conversation.
“That’s all been really positive for us.”
Tony Khan and AEW are currently preparing for the promotion’s UK debut with the highly anticipated All In show at Wembley Stadium.
