Tony Khan On Why AEW Hasn’t Promoted IMPACT Rebellion

AEW President Tony Khan has explained why the huge IMPACT Rebellion title match hasn’t been promoted much on AEW TV.

On April 25, it’s title vs title. AEW World Champion Kenny Omega faces IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann, with both titles on the line.

With the AEW title being involved in such a historic match, fans have found it odd that the event is rarely acknowledged on AEW TV. Tony Khan has stated that it’s all down to money.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Khan noted that he has to pay to promote AEW on IMPACT TV. He discussed the match, acknowledging that either man could realistically leave Rebellion as a double champion.

Here is the full quote:

“People have asked me why I haven’t gone out and spent a lot of money promoting (IMPACT Rebellion). It’s when I’ve gone to (IMPACT), I’ve had to pay to buy ads. It’s on (IMPACT). Kenny Omega will be wrestling for the IMPACT World Title. It’s possible Rich Swann could be AEW World Champion next week. It’s also quite possible Omega will be IMPACT World Champion. It’ll be interesting.”

Kenny Omega lost a six man tag match on IMPACT earlier this month. Omega and The Good Brothers were defeated by Rich Swann, Eddie Edwards and Willie Mack.

Omega last wrestled on Monday’s episode of AEW Dark: Elevation. Swann last competed during IMPACT Wrestling Hardcore Justice.

AEW Dynamite now runs unopposed by a wrestling show after NXT moved to Tuesday nights. Triple H has called the NXT vs AEW narrative was an “imaginary war“.
