AEW President Tony Khan has opened up on the creative process in the company ahead of it’s seventh year in 2026.
AEW launched in January 2019, with it officially turning seven years old on January 1.
Over the years, Tony Khan has remained as the main person in charge of creative in the company, though other names have helped out in creative in certain aspects.
2025 was reportedly a year where Tony Khan was more hands on with the creative direction, and he has now opened up on how he manages to keep AEW’s creative fresh after seven years.
Speaking to Case Lowe on Q101, he said:
“I feel like I have a good gauge of AEW, and I like to hear the perspectives of different people. (Case Lowe is) somebody I enjoy hearing the perspective of, and I think it’s really important to hear different wrestling perspectives.
“In the room, I’ve actually tried to make it where I have my own outline and my own ideas before I start taking in everybody’s, and I think that was after Corpus Christi what I decided to do, and being collaborative. I hear a lot of ideas through the week and I started collaborating gradually more and more on putting the outline together.
“I decided this year, I’d go back to just putting the outline together myself before asking others what they think, and I think that’s been good because it’s always good to have feedback from people, but you also can’t listen to 37 people contributing to one idea, and that’s really what it comes down to.
“I love wrestling, I love doing it 52 weeks a year. AEW is so important to me, and I think this year has been, in my opinion, the best year of TV shows and pay-per-views, start to finish, I think we’ve done.
“This is my favorite, and I think it was really important because after having one of the biggest wrestling media rights deals ever, certainly from a challenger promotion, by far the biggest ever, I think the most important thing a promotion can do this year, in our position, is knock it out of the park.”
