Tony Khan is ‘optimistic’ about being able to get this major name to compete in the upcoming Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament.
After helping to make the announcement early in the show at AEW Double or Nothing in Las Vegas, Tony Khan shared what star opponent from Owen Hart’s own past he was optimistic may be able to participate in the tournament.
Khan said:
“I think it’s very cool for the company that our Canadian tour will coincide with the Owen Hart cup. I think it’s very fitting we’ve got Forbidden Door coming up, and Owen Hart is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. There’s a great history that goes with Owen Hart and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
“Having the Owen Hart Tournament kick off in Canada, around Forbidden Door, we have this great partnership with New Japan and he has been a great champion for them. I think it’s very fitting.
“Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could get Jushin Thunder Liger over to Canada? […] I think it’d be great if Jushin Thunder Liger can come over, and I’m optimistic that he’ll be able to.”
Snagging an appearance by Jushin Thunder Liger on AEW, particularly for the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament sounds like a tremendous tribute.
Elsewhere in the media scrum, Khan also confirmed that the hat he wore on stage as well as the ‘gangster’ line were all the genius of Dr. Martha Hart.
And as mentioned by Dr. Martha Hart on stage, this year for the Owen Cup final there will be an important update to the suggested headwear.
Don’t forget to bring your best cowboy hats for the Calgary Stampede edition of AEW Collision on July 15th in Calgary, Alberta where the Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament will conclude.
