AEW President Tony Khan has commented on his current relationship with MJF, following the star’s recent return to TV.
In the closing moments of All Out, MJF revealed that he was the ‘Joker’ entrant who had won the Casino Ladder Match earlier that night. Prior to this, MJF’s last AEW appearance was on the June 1 edition of Dynamite, when he cut a promo that blurred the lines between work and shoot.
Following MJF’s return, the star confirmed that he has signed a new deal with the promotion for more money. Previous reports had indicated that MJF had been legitimately frustrated with his contract, compared to others who joined AEW after him.
Speaking with Variety, Khan noted that his current relationship with MJF is ‘professional’, noting.
“It’s very professional. He’s been part of AEW from day one, and he’s one of the most important stars on our TV show.
“Whether you love MJF or love to hate MJF, I think he’s one of the wrestlers who’s connected with the audience in recent years and made himself a star. He’s also had the company behind him to help build him and support him.
“I think that he is the total package of everything it takes to be a successful pro wrestler. I think he has it all. He’s a really important part of AEW.”
MJF is still set to become a free agent in 2024. You can read details on the star’s new salary right here.
