Tony Khan Reveals Which AEW Angle He Dislikes

AEW President Tony Khan has recently talked about a Dynamite segment that he was never on board with.

Tony Khan prides himself on listening the the AEW locker room and letting wrestlers pitch segments. Despite Khan’s open mindedness, he doesn’t enjoy everything his wrestlers produce.

Khan has revealed that he was never a fan of Matt Hardy’s teleportation segment. Speaking on Talk is Jericho, Khan admitted that the execution of the segment left him wishing they hadn’t attempted it.

Chris Jericho noted that the idea was originally pitched by himself, and Khan was not a fan even to begin with. Khan reassured the host that he had nothing against him or the idea, however fans will see less segments like this one going forward on AEW TV.

Here is the full quote, courtesy of Wrestling Inc:

“There’s stuff like that. Those are the things I’ve tried to do a lot less of this year honestly. There’s just stuff like that where somebody has something, and you knew I was skeptical of it going in. And I talked myself into it, and I wouldn’t have done it going after. And it’s not against you or the idea.

Just the way it was executed, the way we were talking about it, I had a feeling it wasn’t going to work, and that’s a perfect example of the things I didn’t do very many of them this year. We had made mistakes this year, but I tried to cut down on that this year, and that’s that’s a perfect example of something where like, I wish we hadn’t done it, but it was my fault.

If I really believe that strong, I should’ve just stood up and said it. Your idea was a good idea, but the way we executed it on short notice, it didn’t really look right, but Keith and Tim and those guys did the best they could too. It was tough, and we were in a shorthand in the pandemic, and we were just trying to do cool stuff.”

The segment Khan and Jericho referencing was broadcast in March 2020, featuring Matt Hardy “teleporting” from the through the empty arena to the ringside area.

As Khan noted, AEW were getting experimental with their programming around this time, one of the first AEW shows without a live crowd due to the pandemic.

AEW are the talk of the wrestling world this week, with the debut of NJPW star KENTA concluding their Beach Break show last night.
