Tony Khan Says: ‘People Will Screw You At Every Turn’ In Professional Wrestling Player's Tribune

Tony Khan says that he has learned that in the professional wrestling business, if you show weakness, you’ll get “screwed at every turn.”

In a new interview with Wrestling Observer Radio ahead of AEW’s pay-per-view, AEW All Out, Tony Khan shared some interesting comments regarding the best way to run a wrestling promotion.

Tony Khan discussed his rationale for staying so deeply involved in every aspect of the business, noting he felt it came from the experience of witnessing mismanagement in other promotions, specifically likeneing AEW to Jim Crockett Promotions.

Describing how trusting people can be the downfall of a wrestling promotion, Khan said:

“No, this is a family business… trusting people, letting people take your checkbook, letting people take your TV book, your pay-per-view bookings, and you see what can happen.

“So people say I keep my fingers in a lot of pies whether it’s all the creative, the booking of the buildings or how the business is run but I’ve also seen it’s the most successful way to run a wrestling promotion is to manage the entire thing from the top down, and not let people screw you because if you turn your back in this business, people will screw you at every turn.

“I’ve learned and not just the people who work for you but anybody from the outside if you show weakness.”If you use this transcription or any portion of it please credit and link to this page.

Khan also mentioned that AEW planned to do a lot more touring on the west coast in 2023 despite having taken a more conservative approach to touring in the past.
