AEW are set to crown their latest interim champion at the AEW All Out show this Sunday, when Britt Baker, Toni Storm, Hikaru Shida and Jamie Hayter face off to crown the interim AEW Women’s World Championship.
The match is a result of AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa announcing that she was injured, and would not be able to continue as the champion.
The segment was prerecorded backstage and spliced into Dynamite, with Rosa explaining her situation in a promo that lasted roughly 45 seconds.
This immediately drew comparisons to CM Punk’s promo on AEW Rampage, where he announced his injury, and the crowning of the interim AEW World Champion, which lasted for eight minutes and took place in front of the crowd.
Khan was asked about the timing of the segments in his pre-All Out media scrum, where he said that he ‘strongly disagrees’ with the criticisms of Rosa’s segment, noting that ‘an 8 minute promo with CM Punk’ will draw more than ‘an 8 minute promo with Thunder Rosa’.
Famously the only two options for promo length.
Tony Khan says he strongly disagrees with the criticism of Thunder Rosa vs. CM Punk's promo time for their title situation. He says if we're speaking honestly, an 8 minute promo with CM Punk is going to draw more than an 8 minute Thunder Rosa promo, and that's what he books for
