AEW President Tony Khan has reacted to a stat detailing the number of rematches that take place on WWE and AEW TV.
A big criticism many fans have with WWE is that a lot of TV time is dedicated to rematches. A new report has revealed that over half of the matches on Raw and SmackDown this year have been rubber matches.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics has revealed that 57% of Raw matches in the last year were rematches. 54% of SmackDown matches between July 2020 and June 2021 have been unoriginal, compared to NXT at 31%
Thurston shared the stats on Twitter:

According to the report, only 10% of AEW matches have been rematches in the last year. As per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tony Khan reacted to this figure, stating:
“This is a cool stat. I take a lot of pride as a booker that there are rarely rematches on Dynamite and that when there are, it’s usually a very important story payoff like the Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa lights out match.”
At AEW Road Rager on Wednesday, Aleister Black (now Malakai Black) made a surprise appearance for the promotion. Black has since explained his reasons for signing with AEW.
