Tony Nese was told he wouldn’t be hired by WWE because he was short and white after his tryout.
Nese recently spoke with the Wrestling Perspective Podcast where he talked about being hired by WWE. Fightful Select (subscription required) has reported portions of the content from the interview.
According to Nese, he was told he wouldn’t be hired because he wasn’t what WWE was looking for at the time. Ultimately he would be hired after competing in the Cruiserweight Classic.
Tony Nese was released by WWE on June 25, 2021. He was among the latest round of cuts made by the company, this time focused on 205Live and NXT talent. It has also been confirmed by Fightful Select that he is on a 90-day no-compete clause.
