Tony Schiavone Explains What He Does In New Backstage AEW Role AEW

AEW announcer and interviewer Tony Schiavone has explained what his new backstage role actually entails.

Two weeks ago, AEW announced some ‘backstage promotions’ with names being moved into new roles – and one of those was Tony Schiavone, who was named “Senior Producer and Special Advisor to Talent”.

Speaking on the latest AEW Unrestricted podcast, Schiavone revealed what his new role entails, and what the average day in the life of Tony Schiavone backstage at AEW is like.

He explained:

“My job is now Senior Producer, Special Advisor & Talent Relations. I love that special advisor role. I do a lot of running during the day, trying to talk to talent. Then what I’ll do is when I don’t have a specific thing to do, like run go get this person because Tony wants to talk to them and we need to hammer out some things and bring him back into Tony’s office.

“Basically, what I do [is I] walk around during the day and ask people how they’re doing and ask them if they’re happy. If there’s anything we can do to make it better. That’s very very important, I think we are really making good strides. I really do.”

AEW had come under scrutiny in terms of talent relations in recent months after the contracts of Marko Stunt and Joey Janela expired without hearing back from the company on a potential extension.

The promotions in the talent relations department come after former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham requested his release from the company after the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view.
