Top AEW Star First Match In Over A Year Announced

A top AEW star’s first match in over a year has been officially announced to be taking place in January, 2025.

After missing over a year of his career due to life-threatening diverticulitis, Kenny Omega will officially make his return at NJPW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.

The former AEW World Champion will take on NJPW star Gabe Kidd in his return bout, the man he was captured having a backstage altercation with at New Japan’s Power Struggle event earlier this month.

Despite Kidd challenging Omega to a match after this incident, the Best Bout Machine’s status remained unclear, having not competed inside a ring since facing Ethan Page on the December 5, 2023 edition of AEW Collision.

Omega addressed this uncertainty in an interview last week, citing his health as a reason the match had not been announced.

However, now we have official confirmation that the bout is indeed happening at Wrestle Dynasty via NJPW’s official Twitter account.

In response to the announcement, Omega commented on his big return match, simply tweeting:

Jan 5. Wrestle Dynasty.

Wrestle Dynasty is a collaborative show between NJPW, STARDOM, CMLL, AEW and Ring of Honor, taking place the night after NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 19 event.
