Top AEW Star Nearly Retired If He Stayed In WWE AEW/WWE

When Chris Jericho jumped ship to All Elite Wrestling upon the company’s launch back in 2019, it came as a shock to many fans, who expected Jericho to always be a part of the WWE landscape.

Jericho last wrestled for WWE back in 2017, before he first wrestled Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January 2018.

Jericho spoke to ET Canada ahead of tonight’s Dynamite in Winnipeg, where he revealed that joining AEW helped reignite his passion, and that he doesn’t know if he’d still be wrestling if he had stayed in WWE.

He said:

“It was a little bit of a risk to come here. I could have stayed in WWE and been comfortable for the rest of my career. And if I had done that, I don’t know if I’d still be wrestling today because I was very just mentally like, ‘Eh, whatever.’

“AEW kind of reignited my passion and reignited my creativity. It took things to the next level all across the board. I think 2022 was a career year for me as a result.”

Jericho will be in action on tonight’s Dynamite show, teaming with Daniel Garcia and Sammy Guevara of the Jericho Appreciation Society to take on the Elite and AEW Trios Champions the House of Black in a three-way Trios match for the AEW Trios Championship.

Jericho was also gifted a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal ahead of the show for his contributions to Manitoba.
