Top AEW Star Planning To Retire At End Of Contract AEW

A top AEW star is currently planning to retire at the end of their existing contract with the company.

After 25 years in WWE, Cope (Adam Copeland) arrived in AEW at WrestleDream 2023 and has since become one of the company’s top stars, capturing the TNT Championship twice and challenging for Jon Moxley’s AEW World Title earlier this year.

Currently off TV due to an attack from Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at AEW Dynasty, Cope appeared on First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo and was asked how much longer he thinks he’ll continue wrestling.

In response, Cope said:

“Not much longer. The schedule is far better than what it used to be. If you asked me to try and pull off over 200 days a year that I pulled before, there is absolutely no way because the recovery takes too long now. I’ll have a match and it’ll take me a good week to finally start walking normal.

“I’ve realized now, I’m 51 years old, I figure I have until maybe 53, the end of this contract, and then it’s probably time to call it a day and get out while I can still limp away [laughs]. Lick my wounds and do a whole lot of yoga after.”

Cope will turn 53 in October 2026, which will also be three years from when he debuted in the company.

There’s currently no word on when Cope will be back on AEW programming, with his rivals FTR currently feuding with Paragon and Daniel Garcia.
