AEW star Bryan Danielson has shared his mindset on being a champion.
While many stars win titles for the glory and money associated with it, Bryan Danielson wants to win the AEW World Championship for completely different reasons.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Danielson discussed his mindset on being the champion.
He said:
“For me, it’s not about being the top guy. I don’t care about that. And it’s not about leading the locker room. You can be a leader without the title. I like the feeling of big championship matches. Championship matches are my favorite kind of matches to wrestle. It’s a different feeling from anything else.”
The former five-time WWE World Champion has the opportunity to win his first title in All Elite Wrestling. He will face Chris Jericho in the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions Semifinals to become the next AEW World Championship.
Expressing his excitement for the tournament, Bryan Danielson said:
“This is an opportunity to create more excitement. I’m pretty pumped about the title tournament. It just lends gravity to all these matches. I’m really excited.”
“The American Dragon” made it clear that he wants to claim the gold because he enjoys title matches, saying:
“I want to be world champion because being in championship matches is unlike anything else. Those matches, they’ve got a different tension. I love the feeling of a big title match. Those are the feelings and emotions I’m chasing.”
The winner of Danielson vs. Jericho will face the winner of Darby Allin vs. Sammy Guevara for the AEW World Championship on the September 21 Grand Slam special of AEW Dynamite.
