A top NXT act has been named replacements in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament for tonight’s SmackDown.
On the August 19 edition of SmackDown, the first round of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament was set to conclude with Natalya and Sonya Deville facing NXT 2.0 stars Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons.
WWE Vice President of Talent Development Creative and head of NXT Shawn Michaels took to Twitter in a video to formally announce that Stark and Lyons have been replaced in tonight’s tournament match.
In their place, former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne of Toxic Attraction will now face Natalya and Sonya Deville.
Michaels said in the video:
“Hello everybody, Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels here. First of all, I want to thank everybody for making NXT Heatwave a huge success. However, it was not without its setbacks. Unfortunately, Zoey Stark sustained an injury during NXT Women’s Championship match. It’s also come to my attention that Nikkita Lyons is medically unavailable. Therefore after conferring with Adam Pearce, he and I have decided to replace those two ladies with the former NXT Tag Team Champions Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne of Toxic Attraction. Ladies, good luck in tonight’s WWE Women’s Tag Team Tournament.”
Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne of Toxic Attraction are two-time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. It was not confirmed if this is considered a call-up for the two ladies as of yet.
