A top NXT competitor has revealed that a major NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day match has possibly been scrapped.
This Sunday, Johnny Gargano was set to defend his NXT North American Championship against KUSHIDA at the first NXT TakeOver of 2021.
According to his faction member, Austin Theory, this match will not go ahead as planned. Theory took to social media to reveal that Johnny TakeOver will not make an appearance this weekend.
In a video posted to Twitter, Theory blamed KUSHIDA for Gargano pulling out of TakeOver: Vengeance Day. Noting it was time to be serious, Theory promised that on tonight’s episode of NXT, he’d make KUSHIDA pay.
No Johnny Takeover this Sunday, but tomorrow night @KUSHIDA_0904 , you’re gonna pay because that’s THE WAY!!!” pic.twitter.com/3VdLEcksGx

NXT retweeted Theory’s video, adding to the speculation.
There has been no reason given for Gargano being pulled from TakeOver: Vengeance Day. Gargano vs. KUSHIDA has not been removed from the event preview page on WWE.com, so it is unclear if the match being scrapped is real or part of a storyline.
KUSHIDA and Theory are currently not scheduled for a match tonight, but after NXT acknowledgement of Theory’s video, it’s likely we could see an encounter tonight between KUSHIDA and Theory.
Stay tuned to WrestleTalk for potential updates on the situation.
NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day takes place this Sunday, featuring Finn Balor vs. Pete Dunne for the NXT Championship.
