Top NXT Star Reportedly Working With A Knee Injury

Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano squared off at NXT Takeover: New York in a two out of three falls match for the vacant NXT Championship. Gargano walked away with the win and the championship in what Dave Meltzer rated the highest WWE match in history. That Takeover event as a whole was even rated the best wrestling show in history.

Cole and Gargano will do battle one more time at NXT Takeover XXV in just over one week. Also announced for the show is Matt Riddle vs. Roderick Strong, Io Shirai vs. Shayna Baszler, Velveteen Dream vs. Tyler Breeze and a fatal-four way ladder match for the vacant NXT Tag Team Championships.

However, it has now been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer that Johnny Gargano is dealing with a knee injury. The report says that the knock as sustained at a live event back in March, but thankfully it is not believed to be serious.

In recent weeks, Gargano has transitioned into the role of a producer at live events while he has been resting his knee. It is not known at this time if he will be returning to a proper full-time wrestling schedule including house shows matches in the near future.

The current plan is to have the winner of the Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole match defend their championship against Matt Riddle at NXT Takeover: Toronto over SummerSlam weekend. NXT might opt to have Gargano drop the belt here to Cole and have him face Riddle so the current champion can take some time away from the ring to fully heal.
