A top WWE star cried backstage after their match at WWE SummerSlam due to a personal detail regarding the show.
The first-ever two night SummerSlam took place over August 2 and 3 in MetLife Stadium, with 6 matches on each show.
One of those matches saw Becky Lynch defend the Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Lyra Valkyria in a no disqualification match.
Before the match, Becky debuted a new theme song that was recorded by the rock band The Wonder Years, with the song being created specifically for her.
Speaking to Metro UK, the band’s frontman Dan ‘Soupy’ Campbell opened up on the lyrics to the song, and noting that Becky cried backstage due to a personal detail in the song in regards to her father.
He said:
“The lyrics aren’t anywhere yet, but I worked in a reference to [her and Seth Rollins’ daughter] Roux in the first verse, where there’s like a wink to Roux’s name.
“And then I worked in a reference to Seth in the second verse, and then the chorus references her dad [who died four years ago].
“We went backstage, and she came up to me crying, and was just like, “it just meant so much, because the last time my dad saw me wrestle live was here at SummerSlam”.
“That’s what I was looking for. I wanted to make something that was really important to her.”
Becky is set to defend the title against Maxxine Dupri on tonight’s episode of WWE Raw.
