Top WWE Star Set To Miss SmackDown

Top WWE Star Set To Miss SmackDown WWE

A top WWE star is set to miss tonight’s May 2 edition of SmackDown emanating from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

Last week’s SmackDown was the post-WrestleMania episode, and set up a few potential directions for the “new season” ahead, including WWE Backlash on May 10.

One of those potential directions was in regards to the United States Championship currently held by Jacob Fatu.

Last week, Drew McIntyre and LA Knight had a #1 contenders match for the US Title, which ended without a decisive winner due to interference from Damian Priest, who attacked McIntyre after McIntyre had beaten him at WrestleMania.

Fatu then laid out both Priest and Knight to stand tall over them in the ring.

It seemed this might have been setting up a four-way match for the title, with Fatu defending against Priest, Knight and McIntyre, possibly at Backlash.

However, for those expecting a follow-up on SmackDown tonight, it won’t involve a live appearance from McIntyre.

As reported by PWInsider Elite, McIntyre is not backstage at WWE SmackDown today, and is not set for the show.

There were no further details provided on the reason for his absence.

As of this writing three hours before the show, the only things announced for SmackDown are Aleister Black vs The Miz, and an appearance from Randy Orton, who challenges John Cena for the WWE Title at Backlash.

As always, we’ll keep you posted with all the news throughout the show.
