A top WWE star believes The Rock is not needed for this year’s WrestleMania.
At one point, The Rock was rumored for WrestleMania 39 in a main event matchup against Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
However, Triple H revealed at the post-Royal Rumble press conference that The Great One’s return at Mania was simply “not in the cards” for the event.
At the Rumble event, Cody Rhodes made his return to win the Men’s Royal Rumble match and punched his ticket for a showdown against Reigns at the Show of Shows.
During an interview with Alex McCarthy of Daily Mail, Rhodes stated that he doesn’t believe WWE needs The Rock for the show.
On his belief that the storylines with the WWE’s current roster are more appealing than bringing back The People’s Champion, Cody said:
“With all the respect in the world to one of the GOATs, The Rock, it looks like the options we have here within the roster are even better because of the stories that are happening.”
Rhodes continued on to use the Sami Zayn/Bloodline angle and his story of wanting to win the title that his father couldn’t as examples, saying:
“One story about finishing something that started in 1978 – seven years before I was even born – and another story of really the tragedy of being welcomed into the Bloodline and then what you saw unfolds.”
Sami Zayn is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at Elimination Chamber in Montreal on February 18.
