Trent Beretta Explains The Original Plans For Wheeler Yuta With Best Friends AEW

AEW star Trent Beretta didn’t seem to be a fan of Wheeler Yuta with Best Friends, but he has now explained why.

In 2021, Wheeler Yuta was introduced in All Elite Wrestling as part of Best Friends with Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy as Trent was sidelined.

When Beretta returned, he seemed bothered by the inclusion of Yuta into the group. However, Wheeler eventually joined William Regal, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley in the Blackpool Combat Club this year.

Speaking with The Battleground Podcast, Trent explained the original plans for the storyline.

In regards to Wheeler Yuta joining the BCC, he said:

“Honestly, it’s better for him. The way he got put in Best Friends was super weird and a hard situation for him to be in as a wrestler. Like, ‘Who is this new guy who is suddenly best friends with these guys I knew?’ The whole reason I was being upset with it is that we were planning on doing our own angle where we would eventually have a match and he would win my respect. I was like, ‘He needs something for people to grab on to.’ That’s why we did that, then it ended up working out a completely different way where I was mean to him for no reason and then he left.”

Best Friends are finally reunited with Orange Cassidy returning from injury on last week’s AEW Dynamite, while Wheeler Yuta will compete at All Elite Wrestling’s next pay-per-view.

Yuta will team up with Eddie Kingston and NJPW’s Shota Umino against Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and NJPW’s Minoru Suzuki in a trios match at this Sunday’s Forbidden Door event.

Meanwhile, Trent Beretta will team with Rocky Romero as Roppongi Vice in a three-way Winner Takes All Match for the ROH and IWGP World Tag Team Titles against FTR and The United Empire’s Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan on the show.
