Triple H ‘Gives Up’ On WWE Star’s Push, Felt It Wasn’t Working WWE

Since Triple H took over WWE creative back in July, various members of the WWE roster have undergone character changes.

One such name was Baron Corbin, who was moved over to the Raw roster, reverted to his ‘Baron’ first name rather than ‘Happy’, and was paired up with WWE Hall of Famer John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield.

On this week’s episode of Raw however, after Corbin was defeated by Dexter Lumis, the pair broke up in a backstage segment with JBL telling Corbin he was ’embarrassing’ him.

Dave Meltzer spoke about the segment on Wrestling Observer Radio, noting that the split took place because Triple H felt the push ‘wasn’t working’.

He said:

“They gave up on it. Obviously, this wasn’t the plan. The guy in charge, that’s Paul (Levesque), felt it wasn’t working and that was it.

“Where they go with Corbin, I don’t know. It felt very much like a burial for Corbin…He’s had so many gimmick changes. There’s nothing wrong or right with him but in the pantheon of stars, he’s just not at that top star level.

“I think they wanted him to be at that level and they gave him every chance to be at that level. He’s just a guy. A tall guy but he’s just a guy.”

Following the pair’s split, JBL is reportedly no longer scheduled to make regular appearances on Raw going forward.

Baron Corbin is currently in the middle of a losing streak following defeats to Johnny Gargano and Dexter Lumis.
