Us pesky journalists never do what people expect us to do.
Triple H discovered this while answering questions from the British media about the launch of WWE‘s new NXT UK brand, as one brave scribe threw in a Brock Lesnar-sized curveball.
HHH was talking to the press after Night 1 of the WWE‘s two-night UK Tournament special at Royal Albert Hall when he was quizzed on Brock’s future.
A reporter asked the WWE Chief Operating Officer a legitimate question about comments made by UFC boss Dana White who claimed recently that Lesnar’s WWE contract was up in the summer and he wanted to come back to the Octagon to fight two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones.
“Just wanted to find out from your point of view would Brock be allowed to go and fight in the UFC once his contract is up or would he be allowed to do both?” he asked.
A visibly irked HHH replied: “I think this was about the UK tournament?
“But to be honest I don’t have a comment on Brock or the UFC or any of that.”
HHH then very quickly moved things back ‘on topic’.
But his rather brusque manner when talking – or rather not talking – about his company’s Universal Champion spoke a thousand words.
Trips has been guarded when talking about Lesnar in the past too, including just prior to WrestleMania 34 when the speculation was that Brock would drop the Universal strap to Roman Reigns and leave WWE to return to Mixed Martial Arts.
When asked by CNN News-18 about Brock’s future in March, Hunter said: “To be honest, I really don’t have anything to share in this conversation and we’ll see where it goes. Brock is Brock, he’s an interesting guy to be with, makes it challenging, which is always wonderful, and we’re working on it. We’ll see where that goes as time goes on.”
Lesnar did eventually sign a short-term contract extension though, but has not been seen inside a WWE ring since he defended the championship against Reigns in Saudi Arabia at The Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27.
This week WWE began moves to line up his next challenger as Braun Strowman won the Money in the Bank briefcase then called Brock out, and a multi-man match to determine Brock’s next opponent was announced for Extreme Rules.
But in the meantime, is HHH becoming irritated by Lesnar’s ‘challenging’ nature behind-the-scenes?
