Triple H has recently addressed rumors about Shawn Michaels wrestling for NXT after a dream match was recently teased.
Not too long ago, a photo of a Shawn Michaels and Adam Cole stand-off did the rounds on social media. According to Triple H, this match isn’t on the cards.
Speaking on Pardon My Take, Triple H pulled the curtain back, giving fans more context for the face-to-face. Noting that Michaels’ body probably couldn’t handle another match, Triple H explained that moments before the photo was taken, Michaels’ knee had given out from dancing.
Here is the full quote:
“When (Shawn) was leaving, he ran into Adam Cole backstage and they had a moment and Shawn walked off. The internet blew up with people saying, ‘Oh my God, what if? What a tease. It’s the ultimate match.’ What they don’t know is three minutes prior to that when Shawn’s music hit and he was walking out to the stage, his left knee gave out and he started dancing because he almost fell off the stage. His left knee is so bad that it buckled on him while he was walking down the ramp. That match isn’t going to happen,”
Shawn Michaels “retired” after his classic Streak vs Career match with Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 in 2010. He returned to the ring to team with Triple H to face The Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel 2018. Michaels notably admitted that he regretted coming out of retirement.
Michaels is now a key contributor to NXT, working backstage for the brand. Tonight, NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver begins, with Toni Storm and Zoey Stark recently added to the pre-show.
