Triple H has opened up on how he helped create Bray Wyatt’s iconic WWE entrance, and changes the company wanted to make to it.
After a brief main roster WWE run as Husky Harris in 2010 and 2011, Windham Rotunda’s career reached new heights back in 2012, when he debuted the Bray Wyatt character on WWE NXT.
In 2013, Bray would end up being called up to the WWE main roster, but the company initially wanted to make more changes to his presentation.
Giving a tour of WWE HQ to Complex, Triple H spoke about the creation of Bray Wyatt’s entrance, and how the main roster wanted to add lazers to the entrance, which both he and Bray objected to.
He said:
“Bray and I worked together on that very first moment of that entrance, and there was a moment in time where they were looking for him to ‘we’re gonna have lasers and all this stuff’. He and I talked and I was like ‘does this feel right to you?’ and he’s like ‘no it doesn’t’.
“So I went back and talked to our guys like ‘this is the exact opposite, this guy’s a cult leader from the swamps, he shouldn’t have, as a backwoods guy. What would scare me is him coming through the woods at night carrying this lantern, and I can barely see his face and make out who he is, and that’s how the concept came to be.
“Bray was like ‘I love that’, and then we started riffing on it and how we could do it. I can still picture him with Harper and Rowan behind him, us trying to move the lantern to where we can see his face and see them slightly. Enough to get them but not see too much, and him being like ‘this thing’s too f**king heavy, I can’t hold my arm up this long’.
“All the bits and pieces that go into the creation of these for me make them even more special, but for fans they’re iconic, things that create moments in time you’ll never forget.”
