Following New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Summer Struggle in Jingu, two championship matches have been announced. The New Japan Road tour will culminate on September 11 and both title matches will take place on that show.
The newly crowned NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champions will defend their titles against their Chaos stablemates. YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii and Hirooki Goto won the titles on August 9 by defeating Kazuchika Okada, Toru Yano and SHO. Now, they will defend the titles in a rematch of that match.
Their title win was particularly special for YOSHI-HASHI as this was his first title win in his career. Now, he must ensure this reign is not one-and-done.
The other title match will be contested for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. The participants have yet to be decided as the tournament to crown new champions begins on September 5. SHO and YOH were forced to vacate the titles as a result of an injury YOH suffered back in June. If you would like to read more about this, click here.
All of this comes before the beginning of the G1 Climax. Everyone involved will likely want to get some momentum before the start of the tournament.
