Two big championship matches have been confirmed for next month’s AEW Forbidden Door 2025 pay-per-view.
After weeks of ever-building tension between the pair since their respective wins at All In Texas, tonight’s episode of Collision (July 31) saw Swerve Strickland make the challenge to Kazuchika Okada for a Unified Title match at Forbidden Door during a pre-taped segment.
Immediately after the segment Don Callis ran down Strickland and Prince Nana before passing things to Okada, who formally accepted Swerve’s offer for a match at Forbidden Door, saying:
“Swerve we don’t need to talk, let’s just fight b**ch.”
Later on in the show another big championship match was made official for Forbidden Door, with Athena officially announcing that she was cashing in her guaranteed AEW Women’s World Title opportunity in London on August 24.
Athena, who has reigned as ROH Women’s World Champion for over 960 days, earned the opportunity at AEW All In Texas by winning the women’s Casino Gauntlet match at the event.
The match will be Athena’s first shot at the AEW Women’s World Title since AEW Grand Slam in September 2022, coincidentally when Toni Storm was enjoying her first reign with the gold.
