Two Former Champions Return At NXT Takeover 31

A former NXT Champion was promoted to return at NXT Takeover 31. After weeks of speculation, it turns out there were two former champions making their return. Both of the returns took place minutes apart after the NXT Women’s Championship match.

Io Shirai managed to defeat Candice LeRae after a hard-fought match only to be interrupted. Former NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm appeared on the screen to let Shirai know that she was coming to NXT. One would think that would be it and Shirai would have her next challenger. However, this was not the only return on the show.

Moments later, a woman dressed in black arrived on a motorcycle. She removed her helmet to reveal herself to be former NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon. She was sporting a new haircut and clearly is now being positioned as a future challenger for Shirai.

Moon made the move to the main roster in 2018 after losing to Shayna Baszler. Her main roster run was historically uneventful, eventually being halted by a torn Achilles injury. It was speculated that her career may be over as a result of the injury but now she has made her return.

With Moon and Storm now joining the NXT Women’s division, the group has gotten that much more stacked.
