While this is merely speculation, these announcements will almost surely be related to the next Takeover. That show is set for October 4, meaning there are only three episodes to build to the show, including tonight.
There are currently no challengers for Finn Balor, Io Shirai, Damian Priest and Breezango, NXT’s respective champions. Balor only won the title last week, Shirai recently defended the title against Dakota Kai and Breezango won their titles from Imperium on August 26.
The last time Regal made a big announcement like this was when the NXT North American Championship was vacated. While these announcements will likely not be of that scale, one would have to think the various championships will have to be involved.
The following matches have also been announced for the show:
- NXT North American Championship Match – Damian Priest (c) vs. Timothy Thatcher
- NXT Tag Team Championship Match – Breezango (c) vs. Imperium
- Io Shirai vs. Shotzi Blackheart
- Drake Maverick & Killian Dain vs. Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish
