Two new matches have been confirmed for the upcoming NXT TakeOver XXV event on June 1 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
NXT chief Triple H announced via a video on his Twitter account that Johnny Gargano would defend the NXT Championship against Adam Cole in a rematch from their classic two-out-of-three falls encounter at TakeOver: New Orleans.
That match was given *****1/2 (five-and-a-half-stars) by Wrestling Observer Newsletter scribe Dave Meltzer, making it the highest rated WWE match in the history of the promotion, main roster, NXT or otherwise.

The other bout announced was the widely-expected singles meeting between NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler and Japanese super-worker Io Shirai. The two women shared the ring as part of a four-way match (also featuring Kairi Sane and Bianca Belair) in New Orleans, which was won by Baszler. They also share a common history in WWE, having both been runners up in the Mae Young Classic.
The other matches expected to place on the show are: The Street Profits vs. Forgotten Sons vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch vs. Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly in a four-way tag for the vacant NXT Tag Team Championship (possibly in a ladder match), Velveteen Dream vs. Tyler Breeze for the NXT North American Championship and Matt Riddle vs. Roderick Strong.
