This year’s G1 Climax has been by popular opinion, the greatest wrestling tournament of all time in terms of match quality.
Matches left, right and centre have been praised by fans and critics, and Dave Meltzer has had to dish out more stars than ever before.
Last week he gave out four 5 or more star ratings, which is pretty much unprecedented, and his generosity continues this week.
Two more matches in the G1 have been awarded 5 or more stars this week:
- Kota Ibushi vs. Kazuchika Okada – G1 Climax A Block Finals – 5 Stars
- Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White – G1 Climax Finals – 5 1/2 Stars
You’ll notice that Kota Ibushi was involved in both matches, and there’s a good reason for that. He’s really good at wrestling.
Comparatively, the highest star rating for SummerSlam was 4 1/4, which was awarded to the Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins match.
Yes, Dave may be a bit biased towards NJPW, but there’s no denying that the G1 this year has been sensational.
