The winners of the first season of WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats) on A&E have been confirmed after tonight’s final.
Starting with 16 rookies, the remaining field of four were part of the finals, which featured matches taped at Madison Square Garden earlier this year.
The four finalists were Jasper Troy and Shiloh Hill for the men, and Zena Sterling and Tyra Mae Steele for the women.
Troy was representing Team Booker T, Sterling representing Team Bubba Ray Dudley, with both Hill and Steele representing Team Undertaker. Team Mickie James had no-one in the finals.
Sterling faced Steele, and Troy faced Hill, in matches that were taped before the Madison Square Garden ‘Roadblock’ episode of NXT that took place in March.
The idea of WWE LFG is that the two winners earn themselves NXT contracts – although in reality, all the rookies are actually already signed.
After assessing their performances in the matches at MSG and throughout the series, head of NXT Shawn Michaels – WWE’s senior vice president of talent development and creative – had the vote on who would win season one.
Tyra Mae Steele and Jasper Troy were crowned the winners by Michaels, as he confirmed they have officially earned a spot on the NXT roster.
Steele is Olympic Gold Medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock, and Troy is Antione Frazier, a former offensive lineman for the University of Northern Iowa.
They will likely make their NXT debuts in the coming weeks, but as noted, the other LFG participants including Sterling and Hill are also already signed to NXT in reality, so they could also debut any time now.
In fact, Hill was already part of the recent 25-man NXT Championship #1 contender battle royal that was won by Myles Borne.
