Tye Dillinger Reveals Why He Signed With AEW After Leaving WWE

Last night All Elite Wrestling posted a video on their Twitter that confirmed former WWE and NXT star Tye Dillinger, now going by Shawn Spears, would be appearing at Double or Nothing in the Casino Battle Royal pre-show match.

Shawn Spears recently spoke with Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso and revealed why he made the decision to sign with AEW:

“I’m coming to AEW because I believe in what they are doing I believe in providing an alternative for fans, and I really believe that the audience has wanted an alternative for quite some time. This is now the platform to give people exactly what they want, and I am really looking forward to proving myself in AEW.”

Previously it was not known if Spears that signed a one-off deal with AEW to appear at Double or Nothing, or a full-time contract. Although neither he or the promotion have confirmed he is a full-time roster member, HIS comments certainly make it seem as if this is not a one-appearance deal.

The 38-year old also spoke about his career journey thus far, and noted the ups and downs that he has gone through to get to Double or Nothing on Saturday:

“My career has had its ups and downs, but I took the reins in the past few months,” he said. “Now I plan on taking a very specific, driven direction. And what better time than this Saturday at Double or Nothing to prove that to the world?”

He finished off the interview by speaking of his excitement for AEW, and revealed that he really wants to give back to the wrestling world and help younger talent:

“I’m able to bring a great deal of experience to a company that is looking to build young talent, which is vital to the future of professional wrestling. I’ve known Cody [Rhodes] for a very long time, and in terms of this endeavor, there are no better four guys than Cody, the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega that I would trust to put this together. AEW is history-making. When the chance presented itself to be a part of something so groundbreaking, I wasn’t going to wait around any longer.”
