UFC Hall Of Famer Daniel Cormier To Serve As Special Guest Referee At WWE Extreme Rules UFC

A UFC Hall of Famer is set to serve as a special guest referee at the Extreme Rules event.

At next Saturday’s WWE Extreme Rules, Matt Riddle will face Seth Rollins in a Fight Pit Match. The stipulation will see the ring surrounded by a cage with a balcony and platform at top and the winner can only be decided by knockout or submission.

WWE wants to make sure that this bout has a referee that can handle how physically intense it will be, so they have looked over to the world of MMA.

Per Ariel Helwani, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will serve as the special guest referee for the Fight Pit Match.

Helwani tweeted:

Breaking:

Daniel Cormier will serve as guest referee for next Saturday’s Fight Pit Match between Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins at WWE’s Extreme Rules in Philly. Oct. 8.

No, seriously. It’s really happening. Oct. 8.

Incredible.

Helwani also included a quote from Cormier, who said:

“The Rollins-Riddle feud has gotten very intense and personal. There’s only one person qualified enough to oversee this brutal match at Xtreme Rules and it’s me. I’ll see you guys in Philly next Saturday.”

As previously noted, Daniel Cormier had been in talks to make an appearance for WWE, but nothing transpired from that until now.

The Fight Pit Match will join Bianca Belair vs. Bayley in a ladder match for the Raw Women’s Championship, Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey in an Extreme Rules Match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and Edge vs. Finn Balor in an I Quit Match at the Extreme Rules event.
