UK Police Confirm Investigation Into Alleged Sexual Misconduct Within Pro-Wrestling

West Yorkshire Police has confirmed it is carrying out initial enquiries into several abuse allegations made regarding the UK pro-wrestling scene.

Jonathan Savage, presenter and reporter for the BBC, tweeted:

BREAKING: West Yorkshire Police have confirmed to the BBC that they are “carrying out initial enquiries” after members of the UK pro wrestling community alleged a number of cases of abuse, using the hashtag #SpeakingOut

Savage later tweeted:

Just in: I’ve received an updated comment from @WestYorksPolice that alters the issue in a small but key way: “We have been contacted by a person regarding some comments made on social media and are making arrangements to speak with them to get further details.”

Leanne-Marie, who works in British wrestling as an interviewer, announcer, and other roles, tweeted the following statement, confirming she’s been in contact with West Yorkshire Police and they are taking the movement and allegations very seriously, and advising victims not to come out publicly on social media but to report it to police instead:

This comes following the #SpeakingOut movement that has trended on social media over the last couple of days as several names in the wrestling business, many of whom are based on the UK scene, have been accused of abuse.
